This griffin has breasts, and its face is torn off by time or an axe. No scream from the mouth of a woman, lion or bird could be as awful as this one. Drawn in broiling sunlight at the Temple of Apollo in Didim in Izmir on the Aegean. This chunk of statuary is a ways off from the unfinished Temple, which was abandoned around 100 CE.
