The face of a New York stock trader carved on this tombstone (?) at Magnesia.

Julia and I stopped at a small WC building surrounded by statuary brought from the massive Magnesia excavation. This fellow was among them. He is the god Hermes (Mercury, to the Romans,) the changeable herald god of herds, trade, athletes, and thieves, with his snake staff and winged cap over a startlingly modern face. Yes, a New York stock trader!!
