Long Beach Jazz & Blues Festival Sept 4 2001 —— Because of 911 five days later, I had forgotten this until I found the drawings. Wow.

HANDSOME JASON
Ramiro Arras — Server in the Soul Food tent — Handsome Jason —— Ramiro loved his drawing. All I remember about Jason aside from his looks is that he loved to play golf with Howard.
WOODY IN 2001
Vernon Woodward — ‘Woody’ — Played sax with The Bird, got high with Lenny Bruce, cleaned up & lived to tell the tales — I never had a better friend.—— Legend with all who knew him. My divorce, move to Turkey & subsequent hospitalization was threatening to a few friends, but not this one. We hung out all that year and I am glad.
ALL-AMERICAN IN EL MONTE
Robert, Sales, from Hong Kong — China — Flavio, Hispanic, East Indian…
… Earl, Manager, El Monte — Kevin, Sales, Seattle…
...Mike, Persia — All-American! The staff at Nelson Honda, El Monte, 18 October 2001 post 9-11—— What a happy day! Woody helped me buy a Honda Accord from this jocular Honda dealership, best car I ever had. We had a hilarious time telling each other where we were all from, all us fervent Americans in this time after 9/11. I love this drawing so much I’m including it entire, for anyone out there looking on a big screen.
ALL-AMERICAN IN EL MONTE
MIKO ELIA AMERICAN
Japanese-American Miko had been a war bride after WWII. We were all loving America in these times, wearing stars & stripes & flying flags from our car aerials and hugging each other in the street.
SAILING WITH SCOTTY
Scotty — went to preview of ’Signs.’ —— Oh my darling Scotty! Ace photographer Scott Stuhlberg, here with his beachboy blond locks, was a close friend of Reggie’s & mine since we were all involved the Mac revolution in the ’90s. During all my changes, Scott was a rock. Before I went back to Turkey, he took me sailing & to the movies and made me laugh. He’s living out West in the states now, taking spectacular photos. And I still love the movie Signs.
