BEST GANESHA RAT
“Albert Hall” – The best Ganesh rat of the trip——On an antique, only. I was looking for a Ganesha statue to take home as he’s my favorite god. But the new ones don’t have rats. “Tourists don’t want a rat,” I was told. This museum was fabulous, so many exquisite small sculptures, I wanted to draw everything in it. I eventually found a Ganesha I could live with, and made his rat myself out of a couple of broken earrings.
ANOTHER GANESHA & ZED
K. L. Jewelers – Shadab – Leverite – Zed——Another toss-up, draw the exciting god or the fabulous face? Both!!
PLASTER BAST
Egyptian basement at Albert Hall – The only cats I saw in Jaipur – hole for earring – White Bast: Invested 20 minutes drawing it before realizing it’s a plaster cast of an original I drew at the Met in New York—–It looks like the British Raj was eager to jump on the archeological bandwagon back in Howard Carter’s day.
THE ROAD TO AGRA
Tiny little drawings done in a flash.
Out the car window on the road to Agra – Florally lettered on the backs of many trucks: *H*O*R*N***P*L*E*A*S*E* – Women in diaphanous saris on motorcycles – Beehives! – Temples like flames – Clump of temples near a fabulous old tree – lounging camel – another gorgeous sari’ed woman – starving sacred cows all over the roads——
