ST JOHN’S CISTERN

Cistern of St John’s Basilica with the Citadel — TriciVenola 2023 — Don’t know why I never drew this before. I’ve drawn most of St John’s over the years but never paid much attention to this until now. I think these columns are from the Temple of Artemis. They look a lot older than 6th Century Byzantine.
PALMS IN SELÇUK

Hot morning in summer — TriciVenola 2021 — The street below St John’s, running from the old Selçuk Mosque up to the Basilica. The young owner of a flourishing coffee house in Selçuk asked me to draw this. I was happy to oblige. The next year, he opened a second coffee house just across the street from St John’s entrance. Great coffee!
ESAT TAHMAZ

Kasadaşi — Esat came up while I was drawing the surviving bit of the plastic-like restoration of the 16th Century Caravansaray, told me how wonderful it looked before: tourists snapping photos old rugs and old stone patina of centuries Now it’s just another brick building… so I drew its ruined old stairway, and now Esat’s fabulous ‘stash. — TriciVenola 2018
OLD STAIRWAY IN KUŞADASI

—The only thing left to draw in Kasadaşi’s new improved 16thCentury Caravansarai— TriciVenola 2018 — Kusadaşi Cıty Councıl destroyed the integrity of this fabulous historical caravansary along with its ambience and any interest for tourists. Now it looks like anywhere.
